Set featured image lets me upload an image but can’t insert it.

James swung blogs via HTTPS around the new caches, and that seems to have fixed the problem:

In some themes blog pages (or Category pages that collect posts) only show an excerpt (or teaser).  By default it will show just the first few lines of a post (without paragraphs or formatting. If you fill out the “Excerpt” box (you might need to click Screen Options to see it), you can customize what shows.
