About the ACFI

The Amherst Center for Fundamental Interactions (ACFI) mission is to advance research in theoretical and experimental physics at the interface of the Energy, Intensity, and Cosmic frontiers. The quest to determine the fundamental laws of nature and to explain their realization in a variety of contexts lies at the forefront of high energy and nuclear physics, astrophysics, and cosmology. Experimental probes include those at the highest energy, highest sensitivity, and largest distance scales. Delineating the implications of these diverse experimental approaches and their interconnections is the theoretical task that lies at the heart of the ACFI program.

ACFI activities that facilitate this mission include topical workshops, a visitor program, Ph.D. student exchanges with partner institutions, and support for in-house research at UMass Amherst. We also co-host larger-scale conferences with our partners and maintain the website for the Beyond the Standard Model in Nuclear Physics working group.
