Fall Internship with Environment Massachusetts!
Environment Massachusetts
Internships to Stop Fracking
Apply today for an internship with Environment Massachusetts! The Campaign:
Fracking is a controversial drilling practice used to extract gas and oil. Thousands of fracking wells have been drilled across the country in the last decade.
In states like Texas, Pennsylvania, and Colorado, the result is an environmental disaster. Rural landscapes have been turned into industrial zones, rivers and streams have been contaminated with toxins and heavy metals, and harmful air pollution has skyrocketed.
Now, fracking could be coming to Western Massachusetts. Late last year, the U.S. Geological Survey announced the discovery of gas deposits in the Pioneer Valley.
It’s not worth the risk to our water, our forests and farms, and the health of our communities. We need to keep fracking out of Massachusetts.
This fall, Environment Massachusetts is working to pass a ban on fracking in Massachusetts. By educating the public and mobilizing support from communities across the state, we can get our legislators to stand up to the oil and gas companies and protect public health from the dangers of fracking.
The Internship:
Interns will play a key role in building the support it will take to keep fracking out of Massachusetts. Interns will assist with all aspects of the campaign, including:
– reaching out to local newspapers and TV stations, and generating positive media coverage
– building coalitions of local businesses, elected officials, and community organizations
– recruiting and training volunteers, and building a broad-based grassroots movement
– gathering petition signatures and calling Environment Massachusetts members to ask them to take political action
– organizing lobby visits with elected officialsTypically, interns commit to working 8 hours or more per week for the fall semester. The position is unpaid.
