Happy Birthday to My Town

Two hundred years ago today, the town of North Brookfield was officially incorporated into the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Town residents were invited to a small celebration at the Senior Center tonight, starting at 6 pm.  Of course I wouldn’t have missed it. The order of events was as follows:

Raising of the Flags – Boy Scouts
Pledge of Allegiance
Singing of the Star-Spangled Banner
Welcome – Mary Walter of the Board of Selectmen
Reading of Proclamations and Congratulations

From Governor Deval Patrick (as below)

From US Senator John Kerry
From US Senator Scott Brown
From US Representative Richard Neal
From Donna Belanger, President of North Brookfield Savings Bank

Remarks and Presentation by State Senator Stephen Brewer
Remarks and Presentation by State Representative Anne Gobi

Cutting and Serving of Birthday Cake

These are some photos I took this evening:

Mary Walter welcomes North Brookfield citizens and friends

The two cakes, vanilla and chocolate, were wonderful

The room was beautifully decorated in our town colors, purple and white

Before I left, I bought myself a bicentennial sweatshirt and picked up a list of anniversary events scheduled through the end of this year. I hope to attend many of them, so I invite you all to watch this space.
