• Mr J Derby was a colleague of our mother’s at Waimea High School.
• Retired for about nine years now, he has matured as a visual artist.
• New Bern was the capital of the North Carolina colonial government.
• It was settled in 1710 by Swiss immigrants and named after Bern, Switzerland.
• Bern in German means “bear,” hence the bear sculptures all over town.
