Observations

  • We didn’t climb the Currituck Lighthouse, though we could have.
  • Edward C Knight, an avid duck hunter, built the Corolla mansion as a winter residence.
  • Begun as a WPA project, the Norfolk Botanical Garden now comprises 155 acres.
  • I especially enjoyed the Rose Garden and the Enchanted Forest.

Observations

  • The fate of the Lost Colony settlers is still unknown.
  • Roanoke Island was the site of the Freedmen’s Colony during Civil War times.
  • Sculpted by a woman, the Virginia Dare statue has had a troubled history.
  • The hang-gliding competition at Jockey’s Ridge was postponed due to high winds.
  • I didn’t see any animal tracks along the nature trail, though we did see birds.
  • The water in the outdoor pool at the time-share was cold!
