President’s Day

The Body Shop will be closed for the holiday on Monday, the 20th. Regular hours will resume on Tuesday. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Thank you,

Tips to Help Get Through the Holidays

Limit your portions. We all tend to eat a little more than we should during the holidays. Use a smaller sized plate when getting your food – you can fill your plate even though the servings are smaller!

Go ice-skating. This is a great workout and a lot of fun!

Drink more water. Often times when you get a hunger craving, your body is actually dehydrated. Drink a glass or two of water and see if you are still hungry.

Eat an apple before each meal. A study was done at Penn State that said if you eat an apple 15 minutes before a meal, you will consume approximately 187 less calories.

Walk more. Wear your walking or running shoes when you need to finish your last minute shopping. With moderate walking, you can burn an extra 50 calories for every 10 minutes that you walk. Walk a few extra laps around the mall!

Limit your alcohol consumption. A 12-ounce beer has about 150 calories, 4 ounces of wine has about 100, and a 1.5-ounce spirit also has about 100 calories. These add up fast, so try to cut back some.

Go sledding. Pulling your sled back up the hill each time is a great way to burn a few extra calories.

Eat more vegetables. Have some extra veggies with your meal rather than mashed potatoes or stuffing covered in gravy.

Walk an extra mile. For every dessert you eat, match it by walking an extra mile.

Happy Holidays From Your Body Shop Management!

Why Receive a Fitness Assessment?

Receiving information about your health and fitness status can go a long way.

Leading Causes of Death (2007)

  1. Heart Disease
  2. Cancer
  3. Stroke
  4. COPD
  5. Accidents
  6. Alzheimer’s Disease
  7. Diabetes
  8. Influenza/Pneumonia
  9. Kidney Disease
  10. Blood Infection

(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC])

Knowing and understanding the results from a fitness assessment may potentially save your life! Being physically active will keep you healthy and may increase your longevity of life!

With Enhanced Physical Activity You Can:

  • Decrease rates for overall mortality
  • Decrease risk for coronary heart disease
  • Prevent and/or delay hypertension (having a high blood pressure)
  • Improve your glucose management
  • Decrease risk for various cancers
  • With resistance training – increase bone mineral density
  • Increase your respiratory system

(Frank Rife, Ph. D, University of Massachusetts Amherst)

For Example:

After receiving your fitness assessment, you find out that you can a high resting heart rate, high blood pressure, low cardiovascular fitness, low muscular endurance, or are a little overweight. There is no need to panic if you act on it. Being physically active can turn all of that around!

High Blood Pressure = Hypertension (>120 mmHg/>80 mmHg) = risk of having a stroke

With physical activity, you can decrease that risk.

Also with physical activity you can improve your glucose management, which will decrease your risk for developing diabetes.

Being physically active can take you a long way! So – GET ACTIVE, GET HEALTHY!

Get Active, Get Healthy!
