What is Web Accessibility?
Web accessibility is the practice of designing and developing digital technology so that they can be operated by any user whether or not that user has a disability. Web accessibility is important not only because it’s a basic human right for everyone to have an equal opportunity, but also because the web has become incredibly important in many aspects of life. The ability to access information on the web can be especially important or even necessary for people with disabilities. Visual and audio walls that were previously a huge obstacle for people with disabilities can now be destroyed with the progression in web technology.
What is Alternative Text?
Alternative text, also known as “alt text”, acts as a substitution for any visual content that can’t be seen by someone on the web. Visual media such as photos, graphs, charts, and other types of images can be replaced by embedded text which can be used to describe the respective image. This can not only be useful for people who run into a broken image that doesn’t load, but also for people who are blind or have impaired vision. The text can be read by screen readers so that the image can be more widely accessible.
How do you add Alternative Text?
