Active minds: Through campus-wide events and national programs, Active Minds aims to remove the stigma that surrounds mental health issues and create a comfortable environment for open conversation about mental health issues on campus nationwide
Actively Moving Forward: Supporting students dealing with illness or death.
American Red Cross: At the UMass Red Cross Club, our goal is to make a difference on campus by helping people. Each blood transfusion can save up to three lives, and that’s our motivation behind volunteering countless hours and recruiting donors for the American Red Cross.
Autism Speaks U: Hosts an amazing 5k run/3k walk in the spring. Last year they raised over $20,000 with the help of students and community members. They also volunteer with Whole Children about once a month with their dances, cafe nights, and more. Whole Children is a program that offers classes and day programs for children and adults with disabilities.
Best Buddies: Their mission is to establish a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-on-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD)
Boltwood Project: The Boltwood Project is a student-run civic engagement and leadership program designed to provide enrichment, recreation, and socialization for adults and children who have varying abilities. The project offers a 2-credit seminar for students who are part of the teams that organize weekly enrichment activities. In addition, a 4-credit leadership course is available for students who have completed exceptional service work in the seminar.
Brain/Behavior Regulatory Organization: The Brain/Behavior Regulatory Organization (BRO) represents the Neuroscience & Behavior program.
Brighter Beginnings: Brighter Beginnings will raise awareness and support of neglected children throughout the Pioneer Valley and other communities.
Center for Health Promotion: The Center for Health Promotion advances healthy living as a strategy that supports academic and personal success. Students who interact with the center’s programs, services and staff empower themselves to make health-enhancing choices for individual and community well-being; engage fully in their academic and personal lives; and enhance their leadership skills.
Center for Multicultural Advancement and Student Success (CMASS): Serving as a campus resource which facilitates and promotes a learning community that acknowledges, appreciates, and values multicultural understanding and exchange, they strive to advance the personal, academic, and professional success of diverse populations on campus.
Colleges Against Cancer: The American Cancer Society Colleges Against Cancer is a nationwide collaboration of college students, faculty, and staff dedicated to eliminating cancer by initiating and supporting programs of the American Cancer Society in college.
Education Club: The mission of the Education Club is to provide a platform for aspiring educators to connect with one another and the community, share ideas, engage in volunteering activities and learn from knowledgeable faculty who can provide them with resources to help support their education and prepare them to effectively work in a professional environment. They will host events that allow undergraduate students to hear from professionals in the field of education, giving them the opportunity to engage in discussions about educational issues.
Food Recovery Network: The purpose of Food Recovery Network (FRN) is to recover leftover food from The University of Massachusetts Amherst’s dining halls, and from events on campus, and donate it to people in Amherst who are in need.
For the Kids: The mission of UMASSFTK is to encourage collaboration between students, UMass Amherst and the Amherst community by working to raise awareness and funds for local patients and families of Baystate Children’s Hospital, in connection with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Through uplifting and interactive events we will foster a yearlong celebration for the kids. Together, we will change lives!
Habitat for Humanity: The University of Massachusetts Amherst Habitat for Humanity Chapter is a student-led, student-initiated organization that seeks to further the goals of Habitat for Humanity International in providing decent, affordable housing for low-income families. Their goal is to advocate for affordable housing, educate people about their organization, raise funds to support local and international volunteering, and build homes in partnership with Habitat homeowners.
House Councils: House Councils are leadership groups on campus that elect student officers and boards to represent and serve as the voice of all students living in the various residence halls at UMass Amherst. They organize fun events, address community issues, coordinate service projects, and work closely with the Residence Hall Association (RHA) and other representative bodies to advocate and create a positive change for students.
Kinesiology Club: The Kinesiology Club was formed to serve as a link among students both in and interested in the Kinesiology major, to organize and attend events of interest to us, and to create networking opportunities among students and with faculty.
Massachusetts Cares About Cancer: Massachusetts Cares Club will fund-raise money to donate to the Pediatric Cancer section of Mass General. They are looking for members that are interested in volunteering their time to help fund-raise and meet once a month to brainstorm ways to raise money to donate towards saving children’s lives.
Medicine, Education and Development for Low Income Families Everywhere (MEDLIFE): MEDLIFE believes that in order to improve the overall health and welfare of families and communities in need, a comprehensive approach in needed. With this goal in mind, MEDLIFE seeks to deliver aid through three broad avenues: Medicine, Education, and Development.
National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA): This University of Massachusetts-Amherst (UMass Amherst) Chapter of NSSLHA was established to provide undergraduate and graduate students who have an interest in the field of Communication Disorders the opportunity to interact with each other, exchange ideas, and learn more about the fields of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. Through various philanthropic, educational, and professional activities, the goal of the UMass Amherst Chapter of NSSLHA is to prepare students for the professions of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, as well as to contribute to the communicably impaired community.
Neuroscience Club: The purpose of this organization is to strengthen the relationship between faculty, undergraduate and graduate students interested in Neuroscience and related disciplines; to encourage and cultivare an ongoing dialogue within the academic community; to connect students socially who are interested in Neuroscience in an open forum.
New Students Orientation (NSO): NSO welcomes all first year students, transfer students, and their families to UMass Amherst and assists them with the transition to our campus and community. Through participation in orientation students learn about academic requirements and opportunities, residential living options, community values, and possibilities for co-curricular engagement. Students also discover tips to navigate the campus geographically and logistically.
Pride Alliance: Pride Alliance is an organization dedicated to creating a safe, social and fun space for LGBTQIA+ people at UMass and in the Pioneer Valley.
Special Olympics College: The Special Olympics College at the University of Massachusetts (SO UMass) was created to outreach to the Special Olympic athletes through on-campus sports and fitness, volunteering with the Special Olympics Organization, and spread awareness to enhance the lives of people with intellectual disabilities.
STEM Ambassadors Program: An organization that brings together underrepresented individuals in the STEM majors to provide research opportunities, mentoring, and being involved in the STEM field.
Stroke Support Group: This group meets on the second Saturday of every month in the Conference Room of the Department of CommDis on Saturday mornings from 10:30 am to noon and are open to all stroke survivors and their significant others.
Students to End Alzheimer’s Disease: The mission of UMass Students to End Alzheimer’s Disease is to educate the student body of the advances and efforts within the world of Alzheimer’s disease. While promoting brain health throughout campus, members of UMass SEAD will actively participate in volunteerism, outreach, and advocacy all while supporting the Alzheimer’s Association and related societies in their mission to end Alzheimer’s disease and related neurodegenerative disorders.
The Hope Project: Their mission is to spread optimism and strength to change that lives of the homeless community in the Hampshire community. They will promote opportunity and the ability to achieve more in life. They work to make a difference through conducting food drives, soup kitchens, donations, toy drives, and holiday events.
Timmy Global Health University of Massachusetts Chapter: The Timmy Global Health University of Massachusetts Chapter is a chapter of a non-profit organization, Timmy Global Health. The organization works towards health care equality for everyone around the world.
Women of Color Leadership Network: The mission of WOCLN is to connect women of color to each other for mutual support and learning. Through mentoring, workshops, events and programming WOCLN raises women’s consciousness around issues of social identities, self-care, and self-expression. This program provides a comfortable space where women of color can discover who they are while achieving academic success. At the WOCLN, women of color gain leadership skills necessary to make a difference in the communities of which they are a part.
