Growing up was a matter of survival where Victor is from. He describes broken streetlights a a metaphor for youth subsumed by darkness. Becoming a father changed Victor’s life forever. His son illuminated the good in the world and gave him purpose. He knew that no matter what, his son would not grow up in the same darkness he survived.
