Quick guide to creating your story
- Write a story script: pick a moment from your past or something that inspires you and try to bring the audience into that moment using language that “shows” rather than “tells”. Aim for 300 words.
- Record a voiceover: this can be done using quicktime player on most computers or the voice memo function on your smart phone.
- Choose images and/or video to accompany your script: Typically 4-5 images is effective and doesn’t distract from the narration. Experiment with symbolic imagery as well as images that explicitly represent your topic.
- Decide where the images will be most effective and how you would like to transition between them.

- Go to MEDIA (Top left) and click the plus sign (import) then drag and drop your files or browse to select files.
- To create a new video: go to DASHBOARD (top left) and click on CREATE NEW then Choose VIDEO EDIT.
- Start by bringing your audio recording in: Drag your “voice over” into AUDIO 1 and lock this track.
- Start storyboarding (compiling the images/video clips to create a story).
- Your space bar will stop and start the audio. When you hear a spot where you want to add an image/clip, pause the audio. At the top of the timeline, you will see a shield icon with a + inside of it. You can stretch photos to fill space.
- Add transitions (fade in and fade out between photos): Click on a photo so it is surrounded by a blue box then double click on the photo to get to the editing window. Click on the animation tab (second from left) for fading options.
- You can also pan on an image, zoom in and out and add title and credit slides.
