Taviare Hawkins
Prof. Taviare Hawkins is a native of Chicago and spent the first half of her life in the Midwest. She attended the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa, where she received my BS in Physics and a minor in African American Studies. She left the world of academia for 3 years, moved out east to the island of Manhattan, where she became a Real Estate Asset Manager for the Resolution Trust Corporation. (It really is true that with a physics degree, you can do just about anything!).
She then entered graduate school at Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York. There she completed two Masters of Science degrees, one in Computer Science and the other in Physics, as well as, a Ph.D. in Physics. Her graduate work was in nonlinear systems analysis and human computer interfacing. It was also at Syracuse that she became interested in teaching. She went onto postdoc at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in an experimental biophysics lab before finding a tenure track position in the Department of Physics at the University of Wisconsin, LaCrosse, where she recently earned tenure.
