The first annual Diversity and Science Lecture (DASL) Fall Symposium hosted by the University of California, San Diego will be held October 27-29, from 9 am – 4 pm Pacific time. The event will feature keynote presentations from Rebecca Skloot, author of The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, and Jeri Lacks Whye & Shirley Lacks, relatives of Henrietta Lacks. Additional speakers include Dr. David Asai (Senior Director for Science Education, HHMI), Dr. Wayne Frederick (President, Howard University), Dr. Mentewab Ayalew (Vice Dean, Spelman College), and Mélise Edwards (UMass NSB graduate student).

UMass Clinical Colloquium is hosting Dr. Sierra Carter from Georgia State University on Thursday, October 29 at 1 pm. Dr. Carter’s research focuses on racial health disparities and investigates how psychosocial and contextual stressors can affect mental and physical health outcomes for underrepresented populations. Her talk, titled Exploring the Multilevel and Intergenerational Impact of Racial Discrimination on Racial Health Disparities in African American Populations: Information Pathways to Intervention and Promoting Resiliency, is available via this Zoom link.
