Errata and Updates

We will gradually add errata here.

John Donoghue will be maintaining this page, and if you would like to submit an item for the errata, please send it to him.

p. 3 Fifth line from the top, Chap. VI should be corrected to read Chap. VII.

Eq. I-2.22 The factors of lower-case c are typos and should not be there.

p. 11 Third line from the top, the phrase “field with” should read “field which”.

p. 30 Nine lines from the bottom, App. C-3 should be corrected to read App. C-4.

p. 33 In Figure II-2b, the lower arrow should point to the right.

p. 53 The exponent of lambda in Eq. (2.64) should be amended
to read 4 – 4n + (3 n_F)/2 + n_B .

p. 184 There are some changes in and near Eq. (3.15), which are described in this file.

p. 199 Problem 1, part (b): Remove the first ‘is’ in the sentence beginning ‘Show that …’

p. 141 Problem 2. The second equation on this page has a mysterious factor of alpha sitting between the W^+ and the K^{\mu\nu}. The alpha should not be there – just delete it.

p. 181Clarification regarding Eq. (VI-3.6b): See this file.

Eq. (VI-5.3): The nuclear superscript on the RHS should be Z+2, otherwise electric charge is not conserved. Similar comments for the two preceding equations.

p. 212 Table VII-1 The central value for L_2 should be 1.23, not 2.23 (thanks to Jose Ramon Pelaez).

p. 222 – Not an erratum but: We discussed experimental discrepancies concerning the chiral prediction of the pion polarizability, which was unsettled as the book went to press. The Compass experiment, cited preliminarily as [Fr 12], has now been published, and agrees with the chiral prediction. Errata However, in the second column of Table VII-3, the units for the polarizabilities should be (10^-4 fm^3).

p. 269 Update 6/5/2018 [see pdglive.lbl.gov]: In Eq. (IX-2.15), change 8 x 10-19 to 6 x 10-19.  Also see Supplementary Materials for a CPT bound from Hydrogen and Anti-hydrogen.

p. 271 On the line following Eq. 3.5, “penquin” should be “penguin”.  In addition, two lines above Eq. 6 the phrase “presently uncalculable” should rather be “present analytically uncalculable”.

p. 277 Update 6/5/2018 [see pdglive.lbl.gov]: In Problem 2(c): change 5 x 10-19 to 6 x 10-19.  Also see Supplementary Materials for a CPT bound from Hydrogen and Anti-hydrogen.

p. 487 Just above Eq. 6.13 we refer back to Problem V-2. The reference should be to Problem V-3.

p. 535 Capitalization: In the list of physical constants, the W and Z masses should be written with capital M, i.e. M_W, M_Z , in order to match the style of the rest of the book.

p. 538 In the third line of Eq. 2.12, the indices lambda and nu should be in the lower position on the right-hand side of the equation, in order to match the placement in the other parts of this equation.

Sec. IV-7 — Not an erratum, but: We referenced an online link for Thomas Becher’s SCET lectures [Be 10] as the inspiration for the SCET section of Section IV-7. A written version of the lectures have now appeared, and these are a more complete reference for this material.
