BikeVision
Abstract — As the population density increases in communities, the number and frequency of automobile drivers and bicyclists on the interconnecting roads increase as well. This situation provides a danger for both users, specifically bicyclists. They often become subjected to accidents due to automobile collisions, irresponsible driving and/or riding, and failure to adhere to the laws of the road. Once in those accidents, bicyclists may find themselves unable to alert paramedics and provide a statement relating to the events of the incident to the authorities. In addition, families of victims become unaware many times of the event itself and what they could do to prevent such an occurrence again. BikeVision aims to be one solution that effectively tackles these problems and to ultimately promote safety on the roads for both bicyclists and, by extension, motorists. It is designed and implemented as an alert system using sensors for bicycles. Its system does so by utilizing vibration motors on both handlebars of the bike for threat proximity warning, cameras and OpenCV for object detection and distance measuring, and a GPS system for location tracking in a reliable and user friendly manner
