TrailFlare

Abstract – As hiking continues to grow as a popular pastime, risks associated with it continue to remain prevalent, namely getting lost and injured. When such emergencies occur, the unreliable service of telephone networks and the reliance on user input on radio leaves a void to be filled. The Trail Flare aims to fill this void by creating a device that continuously sends active GPS location without user input as well as a built-in SOS button that can emit an emergency response to a receiver that will log entries and catalog them. Further functionality will include the ability to detect a fall or similar emergency.
