Automatic Medication Dispenser

Abstract — More than half of adults in the United States take prescription drugs with an even higher percentage when looking specifically at elderly citizens. But despite this, there aren’t many commercial products that aim to alleviate the stress of managing medications using automation. The Automatic Medication Dispenser (A.M.D.) aims to solve this problem by automatically providing the user with the medication when it is time to be taken. The A.M.D. system has text recognition software to automatically extract information from the user’s prescription bottle, a pill dispensing mechanism, a notification system, and an easily accessible user interface to aid the elderly.
