Recently, we sent an email to all Econ majors informing them that the course number for junior year writing had changed and this announcement resulted in a huge number of questions, so here are the answers:
- The course number for Economics Junior Year Writing has changed from ECON 397W to ECON 365.
- Students searching for open seats in Econ junior year writing should simply search on subject “Economics” and course number “365”.
- If you enrolled in ECON 397W for summer or fall before the change happened, you DO NOT have to do anything. You should be able to see on your student center that the course number changed on its own.
- Students who have previously completed ECON 397W should be able to see that it still satisfies Econ junior year writing on their ARRs.
- ECON 383 & 400 have not existed for some time, so students should not look for these classes in SPIRE.
- The reason the number changed is that courses that contain 97 are temporary or experimental courses and we needed to put a permanent number on junior year writing.
- If you are NOT a primary major in Economics, you are not required to complete ECON 365, even if you are completing a dual degree. You complete junior year writing in the major that is listed as your primary major in SPIRE up until you declare the dual degree.
