Reaxys: Three Chemistry Databases Available via the Web

The UMass Amherst Libraries now subscribes to Reaxys which includes the authoritative Beilstein, Gmelin and Patent Chemistry databases. This new source from Elsevier provides a web-based search and retrieval system for organic, organo-metallic, and inorganic chemistry data from about 3800 journals and patents from U.S., World and European patent publications. You can query the database by drawing a structure or reaction, typing text, or loading a previously saved structure or reaction.

The Libraries previously had a subscription to the Beilstein database on the Crossfire platform. In addition to Beilstein, Reaxys provides more extensive data from the Gmelin and Patent Chemistry sources.  The legacy Crossfire Commander software client can still be used, but this access will be discontinued in August, 2010.  Users are encouraged to use Reaxys now to benefit from the increased coverage and functionality.

If you would like assistance using Reaxys, or have questions, contact Paulina Borrego, Chemistry Liaison Librarian at pborrego@library.umass.edu or 413-545-7891.
