New Directory: Grants and Awards Available to American Writers

The PEN America association of writers produces a directory of approximately 1,500 domestic and foreign literary grants, awards, fellowships and residencies. You can search the Grants & Awards database by keyword, genre (e.g. children’s literature, poetry, journalism, etc.), type of listing or deadline. This database is accessible by username and password. If you have questions about using it, please contact reference staff.

Import Genius: What’s Shipped In

The new database Import Genius collects logs of shipping containers moving around the world. You can search by product, importer, shipper, vessel, container number, port, date, etc. and see all the parties involved in trade. You can create maps of the movements of products by consignee and shipper and export  or email results of your searches.

Global Plants is Here and Growing

Global Plants is a growing database of images, naming structures, locality and country, collector and collection of plants from over 300 herbaria around the world. Related materials, such as correspondence, diaries and paintings from plant collectors, reference sources, articles, maps and more are presented with each entry. You can browse by taxonomy, resource type, geography, herbarium or collection, and you can search by keyword, title, biological classification and more.

Digital National Security Archive now Available

Digital National Security Archive includes 40 collections of declassified government documents covering Afghanistan, Chile, Cuba, Iraq, Japan, and many other countries, as well as policy makers such as Henry Kissinger and U.S. Presidents Truman, Carter, Bush and Obama, and topics like nuclear non-proliferation and terrorism. You can browse through the collections, or search documents, chronologies, glossary or bibliographies.

Film & Television Literature Index, America: History & Live, and Historical Abstracts now with full text

The Libraries has upgraded its subscriptions to include full-text with the following indexes:

  • Film and Television Literature Index with Full Text – includes indexing and abstracts for over 380 journals and magazines and full-text from 120 of them, film reviews from Variety going back to 1914, and broad subject coverage of film and television production and history.
  • America: History and Life with Full Text – covers history and culture of Canada and the United States back to 1955 with indexing of 1,700 journals and full-text of 200 journals and 100 books.
  • Historical Abstracts with Full Text – covers the history of the world with indexing of over 1,800 journals and full-text of 349 journals and 129 books since 1955.
