Thursday 11/15

Hi All,

Just a reminder that we will not be meeting as a class this Thursday – Instead, you are required to respond to your discussion leaders’ questions on the blog by posting a comment. You must respond to one of the questions posed by each of the discussion leaders for your section.  (This means that discussion leaders should be extra careful to add the section time to the post.)

We went over this in class, but if you have any questions, please contact me.  All comments should be posted to the blog by midnight Thursday, 11/15.

One last note, be sure to log-in before posting to the blog so your name shows up in the comment.  On the right-hand side of this page, if you scroll down, you should see a log-in button (in the bubble titled ‘Meta’).

Hey All,

Check out this site hosted by the New York Times – Anderson lived in Elyria for a period of time, and these articles paint a really interesting picture of contemporary  life in this region.

Wordsworth Q’s from Carolyn, 11:15

  1. In “We Are Seven” do you think there is a reason why Wordsworth chose a young girl and a man to represent the different ideas of death that they do?
  1. One of the themes in “The Idiot Boy” is maternal passions. In your opinion, does the poem seem to focus more on Johnny, or the love his mother has for him? How might this appeal to Wordsworth’s audience of the “rustics”?

Guest Speaker Tomorrow!

Hi All,

Hopefully you’ve all noticed that we have a guest speaker on our calendar for our Marvell discussion – Mike Wall, a fourth year poet in the Masters of Fine Arts program here at UMass will be leading our discussion (in conjunction with our discussion leaders), focusing on “To His Coy Mistress”.

If you are a discussion leader tomorrow, please post your questions – I’ll give these questions to Mike as well.

See you all tomorrow!
