First of all I decided to write and research about the racism that has gone on within the country about black youth and black racism in society today. The continuing racial battle that has been going on has created an uproar in colleges and marches to fight for the equal rights. Coming to the States for school has opened my eyes with cultural diversity and this has been why I have grown so much interest in what goes on with people my age. I saw in the news one day that a Black man was attacked by police officers and wasn’t armed and wasn’t resisting arrest but was brutally murdered because of his skin colour and the fact that he had “suspicious activity” was for the reasoning that the police and decided to do what he did.
I first started my research by looking at all the news articles that have to do with Black ethnicity and some of the allegations towards police brutality. As I continued my research i found that lots of people not of colour were outraged at how the situations against African american people were affecting the millions around them. It was just opinions of people that had no idea about the situations. It was students and families commenting on how they think this has been unjustified without cause. Some of the articles that I went through go into great detail that this has been going on for quite some time without recognition by the public. The acts that were done by the few not all police were put into question to as why they were not being publicly shamed and fired on the spot for the incidents that has occurred.
In my research I also looked at all forms of social media. Social media has had a huge impact on the incidents that have been going on and the changed that people want to see. Being a student at Umass Amherst i have been apart of a social change within our school. I believe many peoples eyes have opened and how there has been a huge change within the school. The incidents that took place made the students unite and have a march together all over Amherst. Chants in Walmart “Black lives matter” really opened my eyes to the effect how people were taking it into their own hands by making sure that those who died voices are heard because they weren’t heard when they were murdered.
In conclusion found it interesting that the youth have started one of the biggest movements on race since black equality movement earlier in the century. The impact it has created within schools and communities is amazing. The youth have made it pertinent that voices are heard for those who don’t have the courage to do it alone. With the movements being all over the news and an uprise with world it poses some questions. Why is it that college aged students seem to want to make the biggest change for society? Do we recognize the destruction that comes with the race battles that continue? Are movements alone enough to stop the police brutality? I find all of these questions vital for our community today. With out all the riots and the vicious uproars the students have found a way to make a voice heard without it being violent. These protest have shown a lot of charisma and passion for equality. I have found it very interesting all the I have read and researched with a topic I knew little about and this makes me happy. It made me realize that people are literally fighting for their lives with great cause because of a lack of equality. The research that I provide will show the movement in youths today.
