EnviSci Pathways

How to Find Your Pathway

What are EnviSci Pathways?

Environmental science is a fundamentally interdisciplinary field, so trying to find exactly what direction you want to take in the field can be a daunting task. EnviSci Pathways provide a comprehensive way to help students in the major discover their interests in the field.  This is done by addressing…

  • academics
    • what classes you’re currently taking, and what you want to take later
    • double majors
    • minors
    • certificates
  • co-curriculars
    • clubs
    • sports
    • volunteering
  • experiential opportunities
    • research
    • domestic exchange
    • study abroad
  • professional development
    • internships
    • student employment
    • networking events
    • career fairs

We’re Here to Help You on Your Pathway!

Determining your EnviSci Pathway is not something you will have to do alone. In fact, first and second year students in the major participate in a required seminar series (ENVSCI 191A, 194A, 294A) that is specifically designed to help you build your Pathway. These seminars cover a range of topics from learning the ins-and-outs of Spire, to understanding the work that professionals in the Environmental Science field do, to building your own personalized curriculum.

At least once per semester, you are required to meet with your assigned primary faculty advisor. Not only are advisors able to help with academics, but they are also an excellent resource for finding research and internship opportunities as well as providing invaluable advice that can help you find what it is you want to do with your EnviSci Pathway.

Along with the seminar series and your advisor, there are currently four Undergraduate Peer Advisors who are willing to share their unique perspectives and their own experiences in the major.

What You Need to do to Start on Your Own Pathway
