(Another) Fantastic Undergraduate/Graduate Student Mentoring Dinner!

Last month at a mentoring dinner event, our dinner theme focused on graduate school applications – we wanted to get the undergraduate students interested in and excited about the process of applying to graduate school.  Our undergraduate mentees got plenty of informal time to talk about their thoughts on graduate school and ask any questions they may have. Some students are thinking about moving straight into graduate school, but some already have jobs lined up and are already considering going back to school after gaining some industry experience. Graduate students were able to reflect on their own thought processes about deciding to apply, and the reasons why we choose to come to UMass.  We talked about tips and tricks for exploring graduate degree options on a budget (how to get free campus visits, get free applications etc) and how to get paid for being a graduate students. Through this event, we made connections with undergraduate students and exchanged contact information for future informal mentoring.

The entire event was made possible by funding from the Women for UMass fund – and we are glad to report that it was a huge success!  About thirty students total (undergraduate and graduate) attended, and everyone was really engaged and engaging.  Thanks to the WFUM fund for making it possible, and thanks to everyone who attended for making it a success!
