The focus of this event was to inform undergraduates of summer research opportunities, such as REUs, international research, and opportunities here at UMass.
The event was an informal opportunity for undergraduates to speak with graduate women in STEM fields over dinner, with a focus on free graduate school applications and early recruiting events. The turnout was great; with 60 undergraduates in attendance, every seat was taken. Aditi and Laura Parker offered a brief presentation on free graduate school […]
This is a great opportunity for graduate students to mentor undergraduates about graduate school, interviewing tips, and career advice. We will be workshoping elevator pitches and discussing personal statements. We’re looking for 10-15 enthusiastic graduate students to attend. Dinner from Atkins Farms will be provided. Additionally, if you know any undergraduates who would benefit from […]
This event informed the graduate community about the AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellowship, and connected event participants to past fellows that could serve as a resource for future applications. It was applicable to all STEM students as well as students from other disciplines, and clarified questions regarding the application process, life in Washington DC, and […]

We wanted to look at the faculty situation and had a great speaker from UDel who is currently a dean of engineering. Professor Pamela Cook is a applied mathematician and she shared her thoughts about the field overall in […]
For this event, we were able to learn more about the experience of successful women in academia. Professor Lutkenhaus’s research is currently blowing up and it was a great way to explore her journey. We purposely kept this small so that people could directly interact and have a candid discussion. The room location also helped […]

It’s certainly something that I’ve struggled with throughout my three years at UMass, and unfortunately, the panelists confirmed that these feelings rarely go away completely, but […]
This workshop will teach participants a disciplined form of listening that is designed to help a colleague elaborate and clarify ideas that may still be fuzzy in her mind. The effort of explaining an idea and answering questions posed by the listener will push the client to figure out what she wants to say. Unlike the more […]
