Next “Emerging Technology and Pie” Event: Podcasting

Our third “Emerging Technology and Pie” event of the semester will be Thursday, November 1st from 1:00 to 2:15 p.m. “Emerging Technology and Pie” is an interest group for faculty and instructors who are interested in learning about the latest technologies being used for learning and teaching. The topic for the next event will be “Podcasting.”

Read on for more information about Podcasting and this event.

What is a Podcast? A “Podcast” is a term for digital audio recordings distributed over the internet for playback on the computer or a portable media player (such as an iPod). A Podcast could be a simple recording of a lecture or an interview or it could take the form of a short radio show. Podcasts are traditionally audio only, but there are video podcasts that include pictures or full video.

In this overview we will look at locating existing Podcasts that might pertain to your field of study, recording your own digital audio, and having students produce Podcasts.

AGENDA:
A. Academic Computing’s Tony Sindelar and Fred Zinn will present a brief overview of Podcasting and how one might locate and make use of existing Podcast resources on topics related to your teaching or research.

B. Katharine Dambach from the Anthropology department will discuss how she has recorded classroom lectures/discussions as digital audio and posted them online for student review.

C. David Perkins from the Journalism department will present a short case study on a class project in which he has his students plan and produce Podcasts.
