Bryan Alexander is an excellent presenter and facilitator on the current state and speculative futures of higher ed, and those of us who have been fortunate enough to participate in events he’s run can attest to his abilities.
He just posted an article full of practical advice he’s gleaned over the years on giving successful presentations, and I plan to make use of a lot of his tips.
Here’s one of my favorite bits, which I need to keep remembering to do:
“As people trickle into the venue, talk to them. Introduce yourself, asking questions. For example, I like to put up my most challenging slide, or a similar web page, and ask people with glasses if they can see the thing. This gives me a good check, shows these folks that I care, and humanizes me as a presenter.”
