February 2014 Moodle News and Update

Hello!
We have rolled out two new tools that will be available when Summer 2014 and Fall 2014 Moodle course requests open on Monday, March 31st. Both tools should come in handy for setting up new courses and reusing previous courses. Let us know how you like them! In addition, we have information on some changes to the Moodle Course Request form.

Update Multiple Dates in a Course at Once

The Edit dates report is actually a tool, not just a report; and it’s something many of you have been asking for. You can now update due dates, cut off dates, release dates, etc., all on one page. You can link to the Edit dates report from the Reports area in the navigation block, or from the new Quick Settings block. For more, see Edit Dates for Multiple Activities & Resources in Moodle.
If you need help or have questions about using Edit dates, please contact the Instructional Media Lab (413-545-2823 of instruct@oit.umass.edu).

Quick Settings Block Added to New Courses by Default

Without leaving your main course page you can quickly see whether a course has been released to students, hide or show the gradebook, or add/hide “Sections.”  The Quick Settings block is now added to new courses by default. For more, see:
•        Make your Moodle Course Available to Students
•        Control Gradebook Visibility for Students in Moodle
•        Add or Remove Topic Sections in a Moodle Course

If you need help or have questions about using Quick Settings, please contact the Instructional Media Lab (413-545-2823 of instruct@oit.umass.edu).

Changes to the Moodle Course Request Form

Beginning Monday, March 31st, you may request a Moodle course for Summer 2014 and Fall 2014.
Please note that the Moodle course request form has changed slightly.  You still first choose whether to create a single-section or a multiple section course.  If you request a multiple section course, you are then asked to confirm that sections are to be combined.  After this step, you will not need to answer question about whether you will be reusing a previous course, building a course from scratch, moving a course from CPE/UMassOnline, etc.  Rather, the email we send to let you know your course is ready for set-up will include links to instructions for your next steps for those various scenarios.
If you need help or have questions about requesting a course on Moodle, please contact the Instructional Media Lab (413-545-2823 of instruct@oit.umass.edu).

Other Additions
