Thank you to our Fulbright Brazilian Scholar, Dr. Ana Carolina Coelho, who gave a really insightful and thought-provoking talk last Wednesday, 10/13. Dr. Coelho’s work focuses on Brazilian history, the history of feminism and gender relations in Brazil and erotic literature written by women. It was a pleasure to listen to her presentation about the “Pedagogy of Feelings” and the pervasiveness of violence against women in best selling romantic novels in Brazil, as well as in “Chick lit.” and mainstream movies such as Fifty Shades of Gray or Bridget Jones’s Diary.
