March 6, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 5:30 pm

Feminist Activism and Reproductive Justice in the Latin American Context

Monday, March 6 | Register

Two days before International Women’s Day, two joint events—co-organized by the Five College Women’s Studies Research Center, Research Associate Ever E. Osorio Ruiz, and the In/Justice Learning Collaborative at Hampshire College—aim to explore International Women’s Day, feminist activism, and reproductive justice in the Latin American context. Members of the Five College community are welcome to attend one or both of these events:

Part One: “VIVAS: The Mexican Feminist Movement for Life”

1:00pm – 2:20pm | Hampshire College, Franklin Patterson Hall, Room 106 or on Zoom

The first portion of the day will consist of a visit to Professor Margaret Cerullo’s “Rebellion and Resistance in Mexico” class, opened up to the Five College community. The Zoom link will be distributed before the event to those who register.

Part Two: In/Justice Learning Collaborative Gathering: Transnational Approaches to Reproductive Justice and Handkerchief Decorating Activity

4:00pm – 5:30pm | Hampshire College, The R.W. Kern Center, Room 202

Later in the afternoon, we will join Hampshire College’s In/Justice Learning Collaborative gathering. The gathering will consist of a conversation about Collective Power’s annual Reproductive Justice conference, followed by a brief presentation from Ever, “The Latin American Fight for Reproductive Justice: Notes from Mexico,” which will lead into a hands-on activity led by Oliver Arellano (artist, designer and doctoral student at UMass) and Ever. This portion of the day is in-person only—please be sure to register in advance so we can ensure enough materials are available!
