Joon is Associate Professor of Psychological and Brain Sciences and Commonwealth Honors College Faculty (http://joonkoo.org). He is interested in studying what makes us human, in particular the emergence of uniquely human thinking. Most of his research lately is focused on the cognitive and neural underpinnings of our numerical concepts.

Jenna is a PhD student in the Developmental Science program. She is interested in the representation of small numbers (i.e, 1, 2, and 3), and in particular, why the number one is acquired first in early child development. In her spare time she enjoys reading, gardening, and spending time with her family.

Vicky is an undergraduate Psychology major on the Neuroscience track and a member of the Commonwealth Honors College. She is interested in cognitive development and the relationship between the brain and behavior. After completing her undergraduate degree, she hopes to attend graduate school and eventually pursue a career as a neuropsychologist, testing patients for neurological disorders. In her free time, Vicky enjoys reading books, lifting weights, and listening to music.

Jamie is an undergraduate Psychology (Neuroscience Track) student in the Commonwealth Honors College, aiming to earn a dual degree in Computer Science. She is interested in cognition and our ability to conceptualize abstract ideas and concepts. After graduating, she plans to attend graduate school to further broaden her work as a cognitive neuroscientist. When not working, Jamie can be found gardening, coding passion projects, or spending time with family and friends.

Larry is an undergraduate student in the Commonwealth Honors College pursuing a Dual Degree in Psychology and Computer Science. He is interested in the processes behind human cognition, specifically our decision-making. After his undergraduate education, he plans to enter the cybersecurity industry for some time before potentially returning to higher education in Psychology or a different field. Beyond academics, Larry enjoys cybersecurity, music & video production, game design, and reading.

Deb is a Research Fellow and Coordinator for the CoDeNeuro Lab. She is interested in the syntax/semantics interface of recursion and the relationship between numerical and linguistic recursion. That is why you can also find her in the Linguistics Department where she co-directs the Language Acquisition Research Center and LALab. Outside of the university, you may find her managing the thick of their yard (aka jungle) that’s not quite a garden yet, and spending time with family.

Shimin is a PhD student in the Cognition and Cognitive neuroscience program. She graduated from LSE with a Master’s degree in Behavioral Science. Her research focuses on understanding human thinking through behavioral and neural techniques, with a particular interest in numerical perception and conceptualization. Outside the lab, Shimin enjoys creating handcrafts, playing video games, and ‘experimenting’ in the kitchen.

I’m a senior in the neuroscience track, and I’m interested in an MD/PhD after I graduate. I have some clinical and emergency medical experience, and would like to pursue neurology/neurosurgery.

Valentina is an undergraduate student majoring in psychology on the neuroscience track. She is interested in cognitive development in adolescence. She is planning on receiving her master’s degree in neuroscience to hopefully do research of her own. During her down time, she likes to run, go to the gym, and hang out with her friends.

Mai is a sophomore psychology major. She is deeply interested in how cognitive processes impact mental health and behavior. Mai plans to pursue a graduate degree in clinical psychology, with the goal of conducting research and eventually working in mental health treatment.
