In article number 1600993, dynamically-tunable plasmonic thermal emission is demonstrated by Jae-Hwang Lee and co-workers using periodic metallic microstructures that are fabricated by strain-induced buckling on highly deformable substrates. Since the plasmonic thermal emitters exhibit spectrally narrowed and polarized thermal emission at the specific mid-infrared wavelengths, modulated by applied strains. Mechanothermal sensors and dynamic thermal signature modulators are envisioned.
