“The 18th Szklarska Poreba Workshop on the Roots of Pragmasemantics will be held on the top of the Szrenica mountain in the Giant Mountains on the border of Poland and the Czech Republic on March 2-6, 2017. The main themes of this year’s convention are “The role of context and reasoning in communication” and “Logic and natural data”.

We especially invite submissions related to the topics above but also welcome contributions relevant to any of the more classical subjects of this workshop series. Experimental as well as theoretical approaches are welcome. We in particular encourage the presentation of innovative ideas, even if still in need of later refinement.

More traditional Szklarska Poreba themes include: Coordination on meaning, inference in natural language, experimental semantics and pragmatics, Bayesian models of interpretation, quantum cognition and language, grammaticalization and other approaches to diachrony, language typology and semantics/pragmatics, game theoretical pragmatics, formal models of language acquisition, explicature and implicature, the architecture of the syntax/semantics interface, licensing of polarity elements, quantification, the evolution of communication and language, optimality theory.”

Eye witness reports from previous instantiations of this conference suggest that you may have to take a ski lift to get to the site of the conference, but the ski lift only takes you half way up. You may have to climb up the other half, possibly in a snow storm and with 4 feet of snow on the ground. You may have a hard time finding the entrance to the hotel, and if you succeed at all, you may be stuck inside for several days. This conference is only for the bravest among us – getting your abstract accepted is the easiest part, so it seems [undisclosed, but reliable, source].
