Handout

Today we practiced some syntactic ambiguity tree-drawing with a sentence that has five meanings: I smashed the bee on the table with a hat.  We then began our discussion of semantics, which identified the difference between lexical and compositional semantics and then briefly discussed a particular kind of lexical semantic relationship that can hold between two words in a lexicon: hyponymy.  We’ll pick up with that on Wednesday.
