Paper on on-line experiments
This paper, Crump et al. 2013, is an extensive investigation of how classic cognitive psychology paradigms, including the SHJ category learning experiments, work on the web. We’ll definitely need to take a close look at this.
Results of in-class experiment
Here are the results of our in-class SHJ-style experiment, in terms of proportion correct by block and experiment. Bn is the block number, V1 is Type 1 visual experiment, P1 is the Type 1 phonology experiment, and V2 is the Type II visual experiment. Let me know if you’d like to see the data to do further analysis beyond what’s reported here.
B1 | B2 | B3 | B4 | B5 | B6 | B7 | B8 | |
V1 | 0.81 | 0.96 | 0.99 | 0.99 | 0.99
P1 | 0.58 | 0.77 | 0.74 | 0.80 | 0.81 | 0.88
V2 | 0.45 | 0.62 | 0.77 | 0.86 | 0.88 | 0.85 | 0.91 | 0.88 |
Artificial phonology and concept learning
Please post your comments on classes and readings for 9/17 and 9/23 here.
Auditory neuroscience materials
I came across this site when I was looking for a video of the vocal folds vibrating at different pitches (they have a very good one). There are lots of relevant materials for the ERP section of our course, including a set of video lectures that are pitched as introducing neuroscience from the ground up “How your brain works”. Lisa and I will get copies of the book advertised on the site. Update: I see Amazon has used ones for $10! Another update – Lisa and I have copies now – please ask if you want to take a look.
