How the course will “flow”

Math104 is asynchronous except for two proctored exams on specific dates, proctored on Zoom. We will be using a Canvas website for the course material and an online homework system called MyMathLab (MML) to complete assignments and exams.

All lecture videos & assignments are typically open and available on the first day of the course.  This means you can move at a pace that suits you – as long as you meet deadlines. i.e. you can work ahead of schedule but there are deadlines and you won’t want to work slower than the stated schedule. So if you have a light work week and want to get a little ahead because you know you have a heavy work week the next week, that would be okay. You can work on things at your pace as long as you meet the deadlines. You will be able to see the deadlines for all homework assignments and quizzes on the first day of the course.

On the Canvas website there will be, among other things, folders titled “Week 1”, “Week 2”, etc.  In each of these folders, you will find my lecture videos for the material you should learn that week as well as instructions to complete assignments and exams corresponding to those lectures. My lectures will contain examples I believe will help you learn the material and complete assignments and exams. You also have all the resources contained in your MyMathLab account as well as the internet to augment these lecture videos.

Homework assignments and exams are assigned, completed and graded in your MyMathLab account (see the Textbook and Homework page). Due dates for these will be in your MyMathLab account.

In this course you will be required to take proctored midterm exam and a proctored cumulative final exam. If the average of your midterm exam grade and final exam grade is lower than 50%, you will not pass the course.  It is also very important that you are aware of the grading policy for this course before you register.
