Textbook and Homework

You will use the WileyPLUS on-line system for all your homework.  It also contains an e-book of your textbook. Since the homework system comes with an e-book the hard copy of the textbook is optional. Due dates for homework will be posted on your WileyPLUS page.

Registering for WileyPLUS

Registration for WileyPLUS is required and should be done immediately.  You may register for WileyPLUS in either one of the following two ways:

  • Register for free! Everyone has two week’s free access and can register for a temporary account for the first 14 days of the semester. This is a good choice for you if you are not sure you’ll stay in the class but it is available to all math127 students. After 14 days, you must purchase access (see below). All your work under the temporary account will be transferred to your permanent account.

or

  • Purchase your own code immediately (see below)

All students in the four “live” sections (Benincasa, Cahill, or Mullen) of math127 this spring (2020) will be in the same WileyPLUS course and should follow the steps below to register

When you are ready to purchase your WileyPLUS access code:

We have negotiated a special price ($55) with the publisher for just the WileyPLUS access code. This contains the e-book (no printed text) + WileyPLUS access code. To purchase the access code for this special, reduced price, you must purchase it directly through the publisher. Remember the following:

  • To get the special discounted price by using the Promo code: UMA16
  • You must check the box next to the product before checking out
  • You won’t see the discounted price until you go all the way through the checkout process. Look at your receipt and you should see the discounted price.

It is okay for you to purchase the access code another way, but you will not get the reduced price. You are not required to have the printed textbook for this course.

One of the many benefits of using WileyPLUS is that you will have the opportunity to redo homework problems multiple times in order to get a 100% as long as you are still working before the homework deadline.  WileyPLUS saves, records, and scores all work that has been done on an assignment up to the deadline. Each assignment has its own due date which you are responsible for knowing.  We strongly recommend attempting homework early and not waiting until the night it’s due.

We generally do not extend deadlines on assignments. To allow for all reasons that homework is not completed on time, including illness, emergencies, officially excused absence from campus, and absence for religious observance,

  • You will be awarded full credit for the answers you complete correctly by the due date.
  • You can still earn 50% of the credit for answers you complete correctly after the due date until the night of the exam on that material. After the exam on that particular material, you cannot earn anymore points on those assignments.

You can access your WileyPLUS account from any computer.
