You need to solve the homework posted in WebAssign using pen and paper. We strongly urge you to download/print/write the problem in a piece of paper and turn off your computer/device and fully concentrate on your homework problems on pen and paper. Pen and paper is a very good practice for you to understand and learn the material. After you solve your HW you can go back to input answers in WebAssign and get feedback for correctness of your results (you can then go back to your handwritten homework notes and amend any issues). When you are done you must upload your handwritten homework solutions in Gradescope. Handwritten homework is due once every week, due dates and assignments due are posted on Gradescope.
Below are some instructions on how to write your solutions and submit the handwritten homework on Gradescope:
Writing your solutions
- Handwritten solutions only (using a note taking tablet app is fine), no typed solutions will be accepted.
- Write your solutions legibly. Illegible solutions will receive no credit.
- If you have to submit three problem sets for three different sections that are due on the same date, separate the problems in sets. Before writing each solutions set, indicate the corresponding section on the top part of the page. For example for the solutions of section 12.1, on the top part of the page you should write: “Section 12.1 solutions”.
- Write all problem solutions of each set in the order the problems appear on WebAssign, for example first the solution of problem 1, then the solution of problem 2, etc
- In multiple choice questions, explain in a few words why you selected a specific answer.
- In questions asking to draw a sketch, a rough sketch should be drawn, which should be representative of what the question is asking.
- Solutions where basic steps have been omitted or answers with no supported work will not receive credit.
Submitting your solutions
- Solution pages that are faded, or not easy to read will not be graded. If there are any quality issues, they should be fixed before submitting on Gradescope.
- Make sure all solutions have been uploaded on Gradescope. It is not possible to submit any additional solutions after the due date of an assignment for any reason.
- Submit your solutions to the correct assignment on Gradescope, by the indicated deadline. It is the student’s responsibility to submit the homework on the appropriate Gradescope assignment. Solutions submitted in the incorrect assignment or late submissions will not receive credit.
- Submit all solutions that are due on the same date in the same assignment, making sure to sequentially submit solutions by section and question numbers if multiple sections are due.
- Although you are allowed to work with other students, the written homework solutions submitted on Gradescope should be your own. No group solutions are accepted. Submitting solutions written by a person other than yourself constitutes a violation of the UMass Amherst Academic Honesty Policy and will be dealt with accordingly.
Submissions cannot be accepted via email for any reason. In case of technical issues, contact Gradescope at help@gradescope.com.
There are no extensions on handwritten homework after the set late due date.
