Abstract:
Nowadays, coffee machines are manufactured with plastic components due to the ease of manufacturability, and low material costs. There are multiple issues with these materials being used to including the degradation of the coffee quality. Existing coffee machines on the market that do not contain plastic are often expensive and close off the brewing process to the consumer. Our team, with the help of Pioneer Valley Coffee, Co., were able to redesign the traditional coffee machine utilizing durable and sustainable materials to increase the quality of the brewed coffee, while minimizing the impact it may have on the environment. Not only does is this new age coffee piping able to maintain a competitive presence on the market, but also integrates a transparent feature allowing the consumer to watch the coffee brewing process and feel more connected to an essential step of their morning routine. Our design met the objective of not allowing brewing coffee to plastic and allowing for easy replacement of parts in case of repairs and cleaning.
