Abstract:
Pushing a stroller while jogging or walking can be uncomfortable and frustrating, while also preventing the user from multitasking safely. Our mission is to create an instrument that provides a fully adjustable and safe option for parents and caregivers who wish to push their strollers without giving up their freedom to run or jog by designing, fabricating, and evaluating a stroller attachment to provide a link between a person and the stroller that allows hands-free controlled steering and is equipped with an emergency breakaway system that prevents the stroller from being overturned during a fall. Our prototype was created with the following four main objectives: 1) Allow the user to steer the stroller handsfree 2) Detach when the user falls 3) Attach universally to stroller handles 4) Adjustable to user comfort. There are a few products that allow parents to have the freedom to jog or run with strollers handsfree. However, these products are limited in adaptability and are not designed with safety features to prevent serious injuries to the child in case of a fall. Our design emphasizes safety by including a breakaway clip attached to the strap around the user’s waist, which detaches in the case that the user falls or stops suddenly. In the case where the user falls, the falling action will apply force to the strap connected to the breakaway clip, and the clip will snap open, preventing the stroller from being overturned. Another main priority in our design is adjustability. The arms, attached by a hinge to the main body, can be turned in order to attach to a diverse range of stroller handle designs. The length of the attachment is adjustable, allowing the user to choose from a range of distances from the stroller, allowing for more freedom of movement. Additionally, the strap around the waist is adjustable to different body types, resulting in a range of individuals able to use our product. Our product will be superior by allowing for adaptability for use with the majority of strollers and body types, while providing additional flexibility in range of motion, allowing parents and caregivers to exercise and multitask freely without having to worry about safety.
