A Final Farewell

Royal palace

Jousting hall of the Royal Palace

Well I must say it is hard to believe that we have come to the end of the tour. We have experienced so many sights and sounds and cultures that it is hard to keep them all straight. Our last day thankfully ended it on a fantastic note. It began with a guided tour of the Lobkowicz Palace, the Royal Palace, and St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague. We were lucky enough to be able to sing in all three of these locations, and each time it was a great treat. We then grabbed lunch quickly on our own and headed to Na Marjance hall for our final concert. This small hall ended up being one of the more lovely sounding places to perform in, and we all took great advantage of the warm

space. Just like in Dr. Unkart-Seifert’s home, we sang with all of our skills and talents but with no apprehension or worry, simply honing our skills and enjoying our craft to the fullest. Our audience was equally as thrilled as we were, and we could not have been happier with our final renditions of songs we have been singing since January. We then returned to the palace sector to enjoy a lovely farewell dinner together before heading home to pack and prepare for the early (and long) flight back to reality. Though while we are returning home to family, friends, and familiar food, we are bringing with us memories and stories that we will never forget.

Excalibyr rest stop

Well the past two days have been full of wondrous sights, sounds, and tastes as we have been exploring Prague. We were a bit apprehensive of the Czech Republic at first because our first destination across the border was one of the most bizarre rest stops we’ve ever seen. After seeing a restaurant in an actual purple jetliner and the sketchy Excalibur themed children’s park, we were very happy to hear from our tour guide Karel that most of the Republic was not like this twilight zone on the edge of the two countries.

Clock

When we truly arrived at Prague that evening, we enjoyed a lovely dinner at the hotel and then explored the city in the evening air. Karel took us to the town square and showed us the famous astrological clock, while traditional czech music echoed through the square. We all found places to eat and dance and returned to the hotel tired and happy. Then yesterday we were completely on our

own in the city. Many of us went to see a re-vamped production of  Don Giovanni at the Estates Theater. Others simply wandered the city, enjoying the architecture, the people, and the atmosphere. My group came across a huge multicultural festival in one of the parks, where we got to explore the dancing, music, and foods of many of the surrounding countries. Regardless of what we set out to do, we all managed to see the wonderful views from the Charles bridge, peruse all of the street vendors, artists, and musicians, find some lovely cafes to eat and drink in, and all return home tired, happy and content yet again.
