Opportunities

Postdoctoral Researcher Opportunity:

The Environmental Geochemistry Lab (https://websites.umass.edu/mwinnick/) in the Dept. of Earth, Geographic and Climate Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Amherst is inviting applications for a postdoctoral researcher position on a funded NSF project. The overall scope of the project is to develop global models of CO2 emissions from inland waters, combining state-of-the-art hydraulic and hydrologic routing systems with stream network models of carbon transport and transformation. Applicants should have experience with geochemical reactive transport and/or distributed hydrologic models. This work will be in collaboration with Dr. Colin Gleason’s group (https://websites.umass.edu/cjgleason/) in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at UMass. The initial appointment will be for one year with a second-year extension contingent upon performance. We also anticipate the opportunity to apply for external funding to support additional years beyond the two currently funded.  Starting salary is $65,000. Please email Dr. Matthew Winnick with any questions or for more information on the project.

How to apply:
Please apply by sending a cover letter describing research interests, a CV, and names and contact information of three references to Matthew Winnick (mwinnick@umass.edu). Review of applications will begin on July 15, 2024 and continue until the position is filled. I encourage individuals from all backgrounds, especially those that are under-represented in the geosciences, to apply.

Graduate Student Opportunities:

The Environmental Geochemistry Lab @ UMass Amherst is always recruiting for talented, enthusiastic MS and PhD students. If you are interested in joining our group, please contact Matthew Winnick (mwinnick [at] umass.edu).
