Einstein was given the Nobel Prize in Physics for the year 1921. Albert was awarded the prize “for his work on theoretical physics” He was also recognized tremendously for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect. Many say it is blasphemous that Einstein was not awarded the Nobel Prize for the theory of relativity. His relativity discovery might be one of the most important/innovating ideas ever. It was the gate way to other huge inventions such as the nuclear bomb. For this achievement, Einstein is frequently referred to as the father of modern physics and the most influential physicist of the 20th century. What usually happens during the presentation of the Nobel Prize, the winner is awarded the Nobel Certificate and the golden Nobel Medal with the picture of the founder (Alfred Nobel). The Swedish king is in charge of giving the award and prize money is only paid once the Nobel speech has been given. Unfortunately, Einstein was on a trip through Japan when he was awarded the prize on December 10, 1922. There was a lot of talk as to whether or not a German or Swedish legate should receive the award in his honor. Was he a German or a Swiss citizen? They came to the decision that a German legate would obtain the prize in Einstein’s name. Einstein himself was handed over the document and the medal in Berlin by the Swedish ambassador. Einstein held his Nobel speech on July 11, 1923 in the Jubilee Hall in Goeteborg. The king was in attendance and about 2000 listeners were there to hear what he had to say. He spoke about “fundamental ideas and problems of the theory of relativity. The total amount of the prize money was approximately 120.000 Swedish Krones. Einstein then issued that money to his first wife Mileva and his two sons Hans Albert and Eduard.
