Patrick Flaherty is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at UMass Amherst. He completed his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of California, Berkeley in 2006. Previously, he was an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute from 2012 to 2015 and a postdoctoral fellow at the Stanford University School of Medicine in the Department of Biochemistry and at the Stanford Genome Technology Center from 2006 to 2012. His recent research has focused on developing machine learning models and methods for problems in molecular biology and genetics. His works has been funded by the PhRMA Foundations, National Science Foundation, and National Institutes for Health (NIGMS). His research has been published in Nature, PNAS, PLOS Genetics, PLOS Computational Biology, Annals of Statistics, Technometrics as well as the machine learning conferences NeurIPS and UAI.
