3B10.30-Horizontal Shive
Video: Watch this demo
Description: Using this shive, you can demonstrate how wave pulses propagate.
When the wave reaches the end, it will be reflected by a free to move end.
The shape of the reflected wave will be the same as the transmitted wave.
If however, the alligator clip (shown in picture) is attached to the end, it will act as a fixed end.
The reflected wave should have the opposite shape relative to the horizontal axis.
Multiple pulses can be made by hand to show the interaction of two or more waves.
Note: The metal wires are very delicate. Make sure when handling the shive, rods do not get caught on your clothes.
