Mufid Alfaris, former group member between Spring ’17 and Summer ’19, visited campus as an invited speaker to our Physicists in Industry series. Mufid graduated with a BS in physics and astronomy from UMass in 2018. He stayed on with our group as a post-bac lab technician for the the following year. Mufid worked on the early prototyping of a tensioned cathode for nEXO and on ray-tracing optical simulations of our LXe test cell.
After UMass, Mufid joined Energetiq, a company that produces high-end light sources for industrial applications, where he has now moved up to being a Product Engineer. He told us that he spends ~70% of his time in the laboratory testing their products and analyzing data. It was fun and a real pleasure to have Mufid visit, learn about his career progression, and have an opportunity to show him his old lab once again!
