Reading for 10/31 – Predator reintroduction and scared prey

Heather will lead a discussion of the effects of big predators on their prey, asking the question: how scared are the prey when the predators are gone, and then come back. A good topic for Halloween, I think!

Reading for 10/3 – “Urban Flight” by Rodewald

A change of focus for this week. I thought we should capitalize on the presence of the NRC department’s visiting speaker, Amanda Rodewald. Her seminar is at 12:20 in room 305 Holdsworth. We’ll be meeting right afterward (1:30pm) in our usual location, 306 Holdsworth.

We’ll read her recent paper:

Rodewald, A. D., and D. P. Shustack. 2008. Urban flight: understanding individual and population-level responses of Nearctic-Neotropical migratory birds to urbanization. Journal of Animal Ecology 77:83-91
