I really enjoyed the site visit to the university of Edinburgh and I think they have some great services in the works for future years. One thing that really impressed me was that they are going to get rid of all of the buildings that are not accessible within the next five years. I thought this was great because they understand the needs of their students and although it may not be smooth sailing, they have some great plans in the works. Another thing I found interesting was the creation of the Schedule of Reasonable Adjustment. When Jan was talking she stated that they don’t take any of the individual’s old supports, they create a completely new plan. I thought this was a little strange because the individual may have things from their old support plan that are working really well for them and that could save time when creating the plan to not have to redo everything. On the other hand the student may have some outdated ways of completing tasks and the school may have new ways to assist them in a simpler manner. I do think it should be up to the student whether they use things from the old plan or create a new one because they may like how they complete things and even though there could be an easier way it may not be what is best for the student. I also think the audio systems should be worked on so that they are the same in all of the classrooms and so every student can have both audio and video instead of just one. Overall I was very impressed with the university and enjoyed my time there.

I completely agree with your points about how the student should be the one to decide what they want to do in terms of academic plans. I think that if something is going right then there is no reason that it should be changed. I also agree with your point that there should be both audio and video recordings of every class, not just for the students that need those accommodations, but for every student. At UMass it comes in handy to be able to look back at the lectures and go over something I didn’t understand or to watch them if I missed a class.
