Throughout the past week in Ireland, I have had the opportunity to see many different sights with my tour group. Most of the sights have accessibility options such as elevators and ramps to make it easier for individuals with disabilities, especially for people who have a more difficult time with walking/transporting to areas. Here is what I noticed at the Cliffs of Moher.
Upon arriving at the Cliffs of Moher, I noticed that the parking was quite far from the entrance of the cliffs. In addition to the lot being par, It was fully packed, leaving a majority of the open spots in the back. For people with mobility issues, this could be quite difficult to transport from the far end of the lot to the entrance.
There were options for ramps to reach the top of the cliffs, however it was extremely steep. It is definitely a possibility to successfully push or control a wheelchair up there, but I could also see the problems with these ramps. In addition, I can imagine there to be some difficulty pushing mobility aids such as wheelchairs up the hill due to how steep it was.
Overall, the Cliffs of Moher have made some efforts toward accessibility, however there is certainly room for improvement. More accessible parking options closer to the entrance and more gradual ramp inclines could significantly enhance the experience for visitors with mobility challenges. Recognizing these limitations is important to ensure a truly inclusive and enjoyable visit for everyone.
