June 19 – Special Olympics

Thursday June 19th, we started the day by going out to breakfast at La Cafe Bella. Then in the later afternoon, we got on a bus to head to the Special Olympics. On this bus ride we saw people on the Viking Boat Tour so we decided to book this for ourselves for the upcoming weekend. Once we got to Special Olympics, we listened to a few presenters talk about the organization. They mentioned the different types of fundraising that they do which I thought was interesting. They do a National Collection Day and they made about 1 million euro a day. Additionally, they do a Polar Plunge fundraiser, a Dublin city marathon, a three peaks challenge, among others. The presenters also explained how their organization works in terms of teams. They have teams based on the athletes abilities and the environment is tailored to their needs. Further into the presentation we were able to hear from a couple athletes, which was my favorite part. They talked about being on the Athlete Leadership program, which helped them to build confidence, life skills, friends, and leadership role skills. I think this Special Olympics Organization
